The end of February is National Invasive Weeds Awareness Week
Damn I just missed it. I seem to always be late for the best parties.
You would think that there are enough federal departments that deal with weeds. Farm Credit Administration, Farm Service Agency, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Reclamation, Department of Agriculture (USDA), Foreign Agricultural Service, etc…
Nope, another government agency had to be created for this purpose. I guess the other departments, bureaus, and agencies were just too bogged down to take on such an awesome responsibility.
This committee was established through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by agency leadership in August 1994
WTF is a Memorandum of Understanding?
Can I write a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a committee that monitors the amount of Beer in my fridge and refill as necessary?
The Federal Interagency Committee for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds works with other associations in America, Canada and Mexico, like NAWMA the North American Weed Management Association.
The mission of NAWMA is to provide education, regulatory direction, professional improvement, and environmental awareness to preserve and protect our natural resources from the degrading impacts of exotic, invasive noxious weeds.
Killer asteroids, Global warming, nuclear fallout, Illegal immigrant invasion, Acid rain, Zombies, Neocons, now noxious weeds?
How can anyone sleep at night?
I am sure glad that these associations are on the ball and here to prevent the devastating impact of weeds on our natural resources. Hopefully they don’t do such a good job that the noxious weeds become endangered. Then we have to contact another department to take care of protecting endangered noxious weeds.
While this is tongue and cheek I know that taming the environment is important to civilization. One trip to
Florida and you can tell that we are only temporarily holding back nature, if you take a break for only a moment the entire state will be gone in vines, weeds, and trees. What irritates me is the tendency of our government to subdivide into more and more specialties. Weed control is just another subdivision of what we are paying our government to do all ready. What’s next? How about dividing again? We need a division of Noxious weed control, and another division for control of non-noxious weeds, then another one for invasive weeds that are not weeds but everyone hates anyway. Then maybe a division for invasive herbs and spices, we have dill growing all over the place.I believe that our government is like a noxious and invasive weed. Is there a committee to handle this problem?-PF
